For years, New Jersey Hearth shops have been allowed to run permitted gas lines with the install of a new hearth appliance.  Recently, a law was introduced, and passed, that will only allow HVACR and plumbers to run gas line.  This newly adopted and enforced Law has the potential to change the face of the Hearth Products Industry in the State of N.J. for a long time.
The HPBA Mid-Atlantic Government Affairs Committee petitioned the State of New Jersey for Rulemaking submitted in accordance with NJ A.C. 13:45A – 19.1 and NJ A.C. 13:1D-1.2 and this Petition was heard at the October 4 HVACR Board Meeting.  The purpose of the Petition was to adopt or amend an existing rule that would define a “Hearth Products Professional” and then exempt the “Hearth Products Professional” from NJ A.C. 13:32A HVACR Contractors’ rules.
The MAHPBA NJ Issues Subcommittee has taken swift action in recent months:
    1. A Petition for Rulemaking to the Division of Consumer Affairs HVAC Board of Directors defining a “Hearth Products Professional” was submitted
    2. A revised Petition for Submission to the Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Consumer Affairs was provided to Director Steve C. Lee
    3. Steven J. Corodemus, Esq. has been retained for legal counsel
Let's stoke the fire!  Please send a financial contribution so that MAHPBA can achieve the goal of earning an exemption to this law or to create new legislation.
It is critical that we succeed in this case to defend our industry and our businesses. Your donation will help MAHPBA's work on behalf of hearth professionals in the State of New Jersey.
